Gold Derby’s film predictions for the 2027 Golden Globes are settling in after weeks of category confusion and last-minute switches.
Movies like Project Hail Mary, Artificial, and I Play Rocky moved into the Comedy/Musical race, in part to avoid direct competition with The Odyssey in Drama. Club Kid, by contrast, was submitted as a Drama despite the perceived frontrunner. Since making the move, some of these contenders are now up by double digits in our Golden Globes predictions center.
Here’s a closer look at the state of the race for the Golden Globe film nominations:

In one of the tightest Comedy/Musical races in recent memory, The Invite and Wild Horse Nine are tied for the top spot in our combined nominations odds. The Debut, Obsession, and Digger are also expected to receive nods, as is Project Hail Mary, which is up 37% since moving into the category a week ago. Likewise, Artificial (up 23%) and I Play Rocky (up 9%) continue their ascensions after switching over from Drama.

Olivia Wilde (The Invite) and Julianne Moore (The Debut) are out front in this competitive lead-actress category, with Inde Navarrette (Obsession) nipping at their heels. Navarrette’s horror flick is another example of a contender that surprised awards fans with its category designation, successfully submitting as a Comedy/Musical as opposed to a Drama. The forecasted lineup also includes Zendaya (The Drama), Olivia Colman (Wicker), and Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada 2).

Ryan Gosling (Project Hail Mary) has skyrocketed 40% in this contest since his space-set film declared it was a Comedy/Musical. He is swiftly closing in on the Top 3: John Malkovich (Wild Horse Nine), Seth Rogen (The Invite), and Tom Cruise (Digger). Robert Pattinson (The Drama) and Brad Pitt (The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth) are hanging on to fifth and sixth place, but could soon be usurped by Anthony Ippolito (I Play Rocky), who’s up 22% from a week ago. Also don’t count out Yura Borisov and his 11% bump for Artificial; note that his co-star Andrew Garfield is up 10% over in the Best Film Supporting Actor lineup.

The Odyssey is still out front for Best Film Drama, but La Bola Negra has been gaining on it ever since winning the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. The two films are currently tied for the No. 1 spot. Dune: Part Three, All of a Sudden, Fjord, and Elsinore round out the projected six-film field. However, Club Kid is on the rise after its recent category swap; it’s up 8% from last week and has officially entered our Top 10.

She has climbed 6% this week and is closing in on the half-dozen category leaders: Sandra Hüller (Rose), Virginie Efira (All of a Sudden), Renate Reinsve (Fjord), Ruth Madeley (Being Heumann), Emily Blunt (Disclosure Day), and Jeon Do-yeon (Possible Love).

While the Top 5 remains unchanged — Andrew Scott (Elsinore), Matt Damon (The Odyssey), Robert Pattinson (Primetime), Pedro Pascal (Behemoth!), and Sebastian Stan (Fjord) — the sixth spot is up for grabs. The next three drama actors have all risen by double digits this week and are fighting to be included: John Turturro (up 13% for The Only Living Pickpocket in New York), Jaafar Jackson (up 13% for Michael), and Jordan Firstman (up 12% for Club Kid).
The 2027 Golden Globe nominations in film and television will be announced on Dec. 7 — see the awards calendar.
