Today’s the day! Golden Globes submission day, when the field is finally set and when the world definitively learns which sorta-funny movies that were released this year are definitely, 100%, no question comedies.

And as it’s submission day, today is an opportune time to see where the Best Motion Picture categories stand as the window to declare a genre closes.

Thanks some late-breaking category decisions — specifically Neon slotting Artificial into Musical/Comedy and the still uncertain status of Amazon MGM’s slate — the Gold Derby odds have to do some catching up to the news.

But all of that aside, let’s see where things stands for the top awards at the Golden Globes.

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - OCTOBER 27: Seth Rogen speaks onstage at the Signature Screening of "The Invite" and Award Presentation during the 29th SCAD Savannah Film Festival on October 27, 2026 in Savannah, Georgia.

On the Drama side, the heavy favorites are all either international features or epic blockbusters. The Odyssey continues its smooth sail toward awards season as the most likely nominee, and it’s followed closely by the Spanish drama La Bola Negra. Dune: Part Three is not far behind, despite having been seen by exactly no one outside of the production — just ahead of All of a Sudden and Palme d’Or winner Fjord. With six slots to fill, the current favorite for that spot is I Play Rocky — if that Amazon MGM film does end up goes Drama as expected.

Four films are currently positioned as locks in the Musical or Comedy category, but that could change as the odds shift to match final submissions. At the moment, The Invite, The Debut, Wild Horse Nine, and the questionably categorized Obsession appear to be safely within nomination range. It’s the final two slots that are up for grabs, but there’s an all-but-certain spoiler on the rise.

Club Kid and Digger are currently ranked within the top six, but Project Hail Mary (with odds recently reset due to a presumed category change) is on the come up. If (more likely “when”) that enters the top six, something is getting the boot. Digger may seem like the obvious exclusion, but the star power of Tom Cruise (especially for a show like the Golden Globes) may prove resilient yet.

Beyond that, with its last-minute maneuvering, Artificial has to be considered a wild card that could be a big category disruptor.

Voting runs Nov. 16 through Dec. 4, with nominations unveiled on Dec. 7.

Golden Globes producer Dick Clark Productions is owned by Penske Media Eldridge, a joint venture between Eldridge and Penske Media Corporation, which owns Gold Derby.
