It’s the weekend for ghosts and ghouls and all things scary. If you’re celebrating Halloween with a horror movie marathon, we’re here to help. Below, we’re sharing five streaming services with top tier scary movie collections, from blockbusters and franchises to cult classics and indie films.
Shudder
Shudder claims to have the best selection of horror, thriller, and supernatural movies and series in streaming, and we agree. The horror-focused service has it all, from the classics like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Psycho to critically-acclaimed new films like The Cycle. Aside from the huge selection of films, the real appeal of Shudder is its original series. Check out Creepshow and The Creep Tapes for a blend of horror and humor in stories that you won’t find anywhere else.
Tubi
- Monthly Cost: Free
- Who It’s For: People who love offbeat movies that would never make it to theaters
- Watch for Free on Tubi
Tubi has a wide range of Halloween content, from family friendly to horror films that will keep you up at night. Tubi is where you want to go to watch your tried and true favorites like Friday the 13th and Pet Sematary, without paying for another streaming subscription. While you’re there, check out the selection of Tubi Originals. The streaming service has been investing in originals like Bite Size Terror, a collection of 10 short horror stories, content made by creators, and titles featuring some big names like The Thicket, starring Peter Dinklage and Juliette Lewis.
HBO Max
If you want to watch the titles that everyone is talking about this Halloween season, look at HBO Max first. Right now, you can stream Backrooms, Weapons, and Mother Mary. You’ll also find a collection of older titles like 28 Days Later, Annabelle: Creation, and The Shining. If you’re looking for something less mainstream, check out HBO Max’s collection of international horror films, like 30 Coins, described as a “Spanish Catholic and Lovecraftian horror series follows an exiled exorcist in a remote village uncovering a global conspiracy involving the 30 pieces of silver paid to Judas.”
Peacock
Peacock is the streaming home of Universal movies which happens to include some of the best classic horror, including Bride of Frankenstein, Child’s Play, and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. While you’re there, check out the new series Crystal Lake, and 8-episode horror prequel series to Friday the 13th.
Screambox
Another horror-focused streaming service, Screambox describes itself as a “curated horror streaming destination built for true genre fans.” The content is selected by horror experts who hand pick titles and curate collections to help fans find exactly what they didn’t know they were looking for. Start with some exclusive titles like Savage Flowers, about a group of children feared to be carriers of a deadly outbreak, or Pig Hill, about the local legend of the Pig People of Pig Hill and the women who go missing when they explore it.
