Disclosure Day star Emily Blunt is receiving awards buzz for her role as a TV meteorologist who gets swept up in a mission to expose the existence of alien life. But her best shot at a nomination might not be the Oscars, according to the Gold Derby data.
Despite decades of award-worthy performances, the British actress has just a single Oscar nomination to her name, for Oppenheimer (2023). That honor came after years of scoring repeated bids at such precursors as the Golden Globes, SAG’s Actor Awards, and Critics Choice Awards.
To date, Blunt has received seven Golden Globe bids for her performances in film: The Devil Wears Prada (2006), The Young Victoria (2009), Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2012), Into the Woods (2014), Mary Poppins Returns (2018), Oppenheimer, and The Smashing Machine (2025). The only Globe she won was for the TV movie Gideon’s Daughter (2006).

She has also received four individual nods at the Actor Awards for her big-screen work: The Girl on the Train (2016), Mary Poppins Returns, A Quiet Place (2018), and Oppenheimer, winning rather surprisingly for A Quiet Place. Plus, she was nominated for the TV series The English (2022), and she claimed an additional Actor Award as part of the Oppenheimer ensemble.

Then there’s the Critics Choice Awards, which have honored her with seven nods across her complete filmography: The Young Victoria (2009), Looper (2012), Edge of Tomorrow (2014), Sicario (2015), Mary Poppins Returns (lead actress and comedy actress), and Oppenheimer. She prevailed for Edge of Tomorrow in the now-defunct action performance category.
Part of the reason for Blunt’s dominance at the Golden Globes is because the group has separate categories for comedies and dramas, so twice as many leading contenders score nominations each year. Similarly, the Critics Choice Awards used to offer categories for performances in comedies and action flicks, which accounts for the majority of Blunt’s mentions.
The Actor Awards are a different story. Its film acting categories match the Oscars, with no genre designations and only five slots for lead and five for supporting. The fact that the SAG-AFTRA voters nominated Blunt’s performances in three films (The Girl on the Train, Mary Poppins Returns, and A Quiet Place) while the Oscars snubbed her suggests that group has a much more populist appetite.
And Disclosure Day is a popular movie.

The Steven Spielberg action thriller earned $116 million at the domestic box office and $247 million worldwide, making it one of the year’s most successful original movies — meaning it’s not a sequel, remake, or adaptation. It holds a 79% “Certified Fresh” rating at Rotten Tomatoes based on 443 reviews. The Universal Pictures film is currently finding a brand-new audience on Peacock and other services, where it’s been streaming since Oct. 9.
According to our experts’ Actor Awards odds, Blunt has an 86% chance of earning a Best Actress nomination for Disclosure Day, good enough for fourth place. She’s in fifth place in the Golden Globes predictions with a 46% chance for a Best Drama Actress bid. And yet, she’s not even in the top 10 for Best Actress at the Oscars.
