Tablo’s free over-the-air TV DVR app is currently unavailable on Amazon’s newest Fire TV streaming devices that run the company’s Vega operating system, leaving owners of several recent models unable to use the popular cord-cutting hardware for live local channels and recordings.
Amazon has released multiple Fire TV sticks powered by Vega, a Linux-based platform that replaces the Android-based Fire OS used on earlier devices. The affected products include the 2025 Fire TV 4K Select streaming stick, the 2026 Fire TV HD Stick, and the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd Gen). Because the new system requires different development tools and app frameworks, existing Tablo applications built for prior Fire TV hardware do not appear in the Appstore and cannot be installed or run on these units.

Tablo has confirmed the incompatibility on its official support pages and community forum. The company lists the three Vega-based models as unsupported while stating that most other current Fire TV sticks, boxes, and Fire TV Edition smart TVs remain fully compatible. Users who recently purchased one of the new devices specifically for Tablo use have reported finding no app available through search or voice commands, prompting some to return the hardware and others to seek alternative streaming sticks that still run Fire OS.
In response, Tablo is developing a version of its free app designed to work with Vega devices and has opened a beta testing program. On September 28, 2026, the company posted a call in its community forum seeking owners of the three affected Amazon models to help evaluate the beta software. Interested users are directed to complete a signup survey and reply to the forum thread.
The shift to Vega has drawn attention among Tablo customers because the hardware is often marketed as a straightforward way to add streaming capabilities to older televisions. Community discussions show a mix of frustration from buyers who discovered the lack of support only after purchase and interest from those willing to test early software in exchange for eventual access. Tablo continues to emphasize that its existing apps work normally on non-Vega Fire TV devices and that support for the new operating system is actively under development rather than abandoned.
For households that rely on Tablo as a free alternative to cable for local broadcasts, sports, and news, the temporary gap means choosing an older-generation Fire TV stick, a Roku device, an Android TV box, or another supported platform until the beta progresses to a wider release. The company has not published a public timeline for the general availability of the Vega app, directing interested owners to the beta signup process instead.
