The Atlanta Hawks are making NBA history with a new deal that will bring their local games exclusively to Prime Video, giving fans another way to watch basketball without paying for a traditional cable or live TV streaming package.
The team announced Tuesday, October 20, that Prime Video will become its exclusive streaming home for local Hawks games during the 2026-27 NBA season. The agreement covers games that are not reserved for exclusive national broadcasts, making Atlanta the first NBA team to stream its locally distributed games exclusively on Prime Video.
How to Watch the Atlanta Hawks on Prime Video
Hawks fans who live within the team’s regional television territory can watch eligible games with an Amazon Prime membership at no additional cost. The territory includes portions of Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Mississippi.
The deal covers 74 regular-season games, giving local fans plenty of opportunities to follow the team throughout the season. Viewers can watch through the Prime Video app on supported streaming devices, smart TVs, phones, tablets, and other compatible devices.
However, streaming is not the only option for fans who want to watch without paying for another subscription.
The Hawks’ existing broadcast partnership with Gray Media will continue to bring games to free over-the-air television. Local coverage will air on WANF and Peachtree Sports Network, along with Gray Media stations across Georgia.
“We are committed to putting our fans first and maximizing accessibility throughout the state of Georgia and the Southeast,” said Andrew Saltzman, the Hawks’ president of business enterprise and chief commercial officer, in the team’s announcement.
The Hawks open their 2026-27 regular season against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday, October 21.
Prime Video Keeps Expanding Its Sports Coverage
The agreement adds another piece to Amazon’s growing basketball presence. As Cord Cutters News previously reported, Prime Video is also carrying an expanded slate of national NBA games during the 2026-27 season, including NBA Cup games, the Play-In Tournament, and the Eastern Conference Finals.
Atlanta’s deal also arrives as the NBA continues to explore new ways to distribute local games. Beginning with the 2027-28 season, the NBA is reportedly looking to launch a local streaming hub, which could eventually give fans a more centralized way to watch their hometown teams.
Meanwhile, traditional regional sports networks have faced mounting financial pressure. Earlier this year, the Hawks’ former RSN, FanDuel Sports Network, reportedly missed NBA media rights payments, and parent company, Main Street Sports Group, officially ceased operations on September 30, 2026.
For Hawks fans, the new arrangement offers a straightforward choice of watching through Prime Video with an existing membership or tuning in free over the air. Either way, following Atlanta this season will not require a traditional pay-TV subscription.
