The Odyssey is No. 1 in Gold Derby’s Oscar odds for Best Picture, Best Director, and seven craft categories — and Christopher Nolan’s epic holds the top two spots in Best Supporting Actress, too. Anne Hathaway leads the category, with co-star Samantha Morton right behind her. See where all of the top contenders rank in our photo gallery above.
Our Best Supporting Actress odds are derived from the combined forecasts of three unique groups: experts we’ve polled from major media outlets, editors who cover awards year-round for this website, and the top 24 users who had the best accuracy scores last year.
Hathaway already won this award for Les Misérables at the 2013 ceremony. A second victory would tie her with Shelley Winters and Dianne Wiest for the most wins in Best Supporting Actress history. Morton, a two-time nominee for Sweet and Lowdown and In America, is still looking for her first.
Two nominees from the same film is a familiar sight in this category. It’s happened 37 times across 36 ceremonies, most recently when Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas were both nominated for Sentimental Value at the 2026 Oscars. Tom Jones is the only film to land three. Thirteen of those films went on to produce the winner, including Everything Everywhere All at Once with Jamie Lee Curtis (over co-star Stephanie Hsu).
Penélope Cruz holds two of the next three spots, ranking third for La Bola Negra and fifth for The Invite. Under this year’s rule change, she could land both, which would make her the first actress nominated twice in the same year in this category. Either one could also make her a two-time winner after Vicky Cristina Barcelona, tying the record. Tao Okamoto sits between Cruz’s performances at No. 4 for Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s All of a Sudden.
The biggest jump belongs to Amanda Seyfried, who shot up to sixth for Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s You Can See Everything. The film is climbing in Best Director, too, where Fielder and Oppenheim now rank fifth. Seyfried, a previous nominee for Mank, is the first contender outside the Top 5, which puts her one Cruz slip away from a spot.
Mariana Di Girolamo (Wild Horse Nine) had the category’s biggest drop in the past week, falling to seventh, while Olivia Colman is sliding at No. 8 for Elsinore. Then there’s Sandra Hüller, who’s ninth for Project Hail Mary and on the rise at No. 13 for Fatherland after Mubi announced she’d compete in supporting rather than lead for that film. She’s also in the mix for Digger, and with her lead bid for Rose, she has four performances in this year’s acting races.
Oscar nominations will be announced Jan. 21, and the 99th Academy Awards air March 14, 2027, on ABC with Conan O’Brien hosting for the third straight year. Be sure to make your own predictions before nominations are revealed.
