Sarah Snook is flying high with a new series underway.
The Succession and All Her Fault star is set to lead a new HBO limited series inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 horror classic The Birds, promising an updated twist on the story.
Based on Daphne du Maurier’s novella, Hitchcock’s 1963 film starred Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Suzanne Pleshette, and Jessica Tandy and followed an unexplained avian attack on a California coastal town. The film is notable for the practical effects and camera tricks and established a template for the natural horror and eco-horror subgenres.
Here is everything we know about the new series.
THE CAST
At the moment, only Snook’s casting has been announced.
THE PLOT
Snook will star as Myra Massey, a mother fleeing a bitter custody battle who returns to her isolated hometown with her daughter where she gets caught up in a mystery involving a killer on the loose and deadly bird attacks inexplicably tied to the crime.
WHO’S BEHIND THE CAMERA
As Deadline reported, the series is written and executive produced by Watchmen and The Leftovers veteran Tom Spezialy. Producer David Heyman, who is also steering HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series, serves as an executive producer alongside Snook, Danny Samit, and Jennifer Gabler Rawlings, with Universal Global Television co-producing with HBO.
WHEN CAN I WATCH?
Because the project is still in early development at HBO, no official premiere date or production timeline has been set yet.
