SFFILM will present its 2026 SF Honors Award to Luca Guadagnino’s Artificial, Neon’s satire about Sam Altman and the rise of OpenAI, at the film’s Bay Area premiere on Nov. 17. Guadagnino will be on hand with stars Andrew Garfield, Yura Borisov, and Monica Barbaro to accept the award and take part in a conversation after the screening at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco’s Kanbar Hall.
Artificial charts Silicon Valley’s race toward generative artificial intelligence across two decades, with Garfield starring as Altman. The cast also includes Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman, Ike Barinholtz, and Oscar winner Mark Rylance. The film opens in select theaters on Christmas Day and everywhere on Jan. 8, 2027.
“This is a story San Francisco is living through in real time,” said SFFILM board president Todd Traina, “and Luca Guadagnino’s unique vision and style, together with his impeccable cast, give hometown audiences a new way to see it.”
Artificial currently ranks 11th in Best Picture in Gold Derby’s Oscar odds, closing in on the Top 10. Garfield is climbing in Best Supporting Actor, where he ranks fourth and is predicted to earn his third Oscar nomination after Best Actor bids for Hacksaw Ridge and Tick, Tick… Boom!
