Horror movies are always great to watch, but there is no better time than the spooky season to enjoy the terrifying tales streaming services have to offer. Although horror movies are also popular around Valentine’s Day, of course they are widely watched in the autumn season. Horror is one of the most popular genres globally for filmmakers to create and audiences to watch.
Some of the most iconic characters from film and TV are associated with horror, and they have become some of the most recognizable across the decades. Halloween is one of the most popular holidays, celebrated with festive decorations, parties, and trick-or-treating that fill calendars with exciting events. Halloween movie marathons bring people together to enjoy eerie films, celebrate the season, and embrace the thrill of being scared.
Horror encompasses a wide range of genres and subgenres for fans to explore and enjoy. Whether it is comedy horror, gothic horror, slasher horror, or maybe even sci-fi horror. Here are some of the must-watch greats from this otherworldly selection on Netflix UK this year:
4. The Curse of Bridge Hollow (2022)
This horror-comedy follows a dad (Marlon Wayans) and daughter (Priah Ferguson) who fight a spirit destroying their town by haunting and possessing decorations that are donning houses and establishments in their community. In turn, the decorations come to life and destroy Bridge Hollow. This is a lighter choice for an early Halloween evening, family-friendly with laughs and classic Halloween tropes.
3. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Another take on one of the biggest slasher franchises, this 2022 saga continuation brings back all the gore and horror of the 1974 classic. Leatherface returns to create fear in the Texas town in this feature, with homage and nods to the original but with a modern twist. One of the gorier movies to watch this Halloween for nostalgia with contemporary spooks.
2. Thirteen Ghosts (2001)
If the movie poster of this 2001 fantasy horror is not scary enough, then the film itself for sure is. A group consisting of a family, an attorney, and a nanny is all inside a house that acts as a prison for twelve creepy ghosts. Based on the movie of the same title in 1960, they must solve a series of puzzles to try and escape—this is a tense watch this chilling Halloween season.
1. Halloween (2018)
Arguably one of, if not the most iconic Halloween movies ever—I mean, it’s literally in the title! The 1978 title has since had thirteen movies across decades, most recently with the newest trilogy running and bringing new audiences into the twisted world of Michael Myers. If you want a Halloween movie that has it all, even if you have never seen the originals, the 2018 Halloween release is a fantastic choice this spooky season!
All of these, and more, are available to stream now on Netflix UK.
As a bonus, if you’re looking for something more interactive, you can check out The Conjuring: Unspoken. This new immersive game within The Conjuring Universe brings audiences into the franchise, turning them into players and characters within the ghostly world. This interactive game allows players the chance to decide how the story unfolds and their overall fate in the virtual world. Although it is single-player, it is a fun watch for people present to observe and maybe have an opinionated input in.
