The 84th Golden Globes‘ Best Podcast category is back for Round 2, and this time there’s a little more room at the table. The eligible contenders have been revealed, and the list has grown from 25 shows to 30. With 11 newcomers and six of last year’s names out, the field looks a lot different from it did when Good Hang With Amy Poehler took home the inaugural trophy in January.
The list was once again put together by Luminate, the Globes’ data partner, which ranks the top 30 qualifying podcasts using audience reach and engagement, revenue, and chart rankings, based on data pulled directly from the platforms.
The 30 shows now have until Oct. 30 to submit themselves for consideration, and anyone who doesn’t submit is out of the running. Globes voters get their nomination ballots on Nov. 16, and six nominees will be announced on Dec. 7. Nikki Glaser hosts the ceremony on Jan. 10, 2027, on CBS and Paramount+.
Last year’s nominees were Good Hang, SmartLess, Call Her Daddy, The Mel Robbins Podcast, Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard, and Up First From NPR. Four of them are eligible again, led by the defending champ. Joe Rogan, Megyn Kelly, Tucker Carlson, Theo Von, and Shawn Ryan also return. Last year, voters passed on the political pods in favor of actors and newsmakers, so we’ll see if the bigger field changes anything.

What’s new
Eleven podcasts are on the list for the first time and bring with them some serious star power. Conan O’Brien, who has hosted the Oscars the past two years, could add a Golden Globe to his trophy shelf with Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend. Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, who hand out their own Culture Awards every year on Las Culturistas, now have a shot at their own statuette. And Jason and Travis Kelce’s New Heights brings sports talk to the party.
Comedy gets a boost with Bad Friends and Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast, while My Favorite Murder joins a true crime lineup that already includes Crime Junkie, Morbid, Rotten Mango, MrBallen, and Dateline NBC. The public radio crowd is represented too, with This American Life and Malcolm Gladwell’s Revisionist History making the cut. Behind the Bastards, Love Trapped, and The Toast round out the newcomers.
Who’s out
The biggest casualties are two of last year’s nominees: Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard and Up First From NPR. That means Poehler won’t have NPR to kick around this year after she jokingly called its team “a bunch of celebs phonin’ it in” in her acceptance speech.
The two newsmagazine pods from last year, 20/20 and 48 Hours, are also gone, as are two of the political shows that made headlines when the category debuted: Candace and The Ben Shapiro Show. Shapiro sat down with Gold Derby last year to talk about his Globes eligibility, but he won’t be in the mix this time.
Golden Globes producer Dick Clark Productions is owned by Penske Media Eldridge, a joint venture between Eldridge and Penske Media Corporation, which owns Gold Derby.
