Tom Cruise is set to receive one of Hollywood’s top career accolades.
The American Film Institute Board of Trustees announced today that the Digger star will be the recipient of the 52nd AFI Life Achievement Award. The honor will be presented to Cruise at a gala tribute at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on April 24, 2027.
“Tom Cruise is a global icon,” says Kathleen Kennedy, chair of the AFI Board of Trustees, in a statement shared with Gold Derby. “As an actor and producer, he brings an extraordinary commitment to everything he does. What I especially admire is his deep belief in movies and their ability to bring people together. That passion has made him an extraordinary ambassador for American film around the world.”
Per the Gold Derby experts’ odds, Cruise has a 51% chance of receiving an Oscar nomination for his latest role in Digger, trailing only John Malkovich (Wild Horse Nine), Andrew Scott (Elsinore), and Matt Damon (The Odyssey).
