Why Is ‘High Potential’ Season 3 Delayed? Here’s When ‘High Potential’ Returns With New Episodes

Tuesday nights on ABC have felt a bit… off… over the past few weeks.

Nothing against R.J. Decker, which aired its Season 2 finale on October 27, or the new season of Dancing with the Stars, a perennial fan favorite, but we find ourselves missing two beloved shows: High Potential and Will Trent.

Despite being MIA on ABC, it’s been a big week for the Will Trent fandom. The first four seasons of the popular Ramón Rodríguez-procedural are now streaming on Netflix, with a fifth season set to premiere on ABC in early 2027. But what does the future hold for High Potential? And more importantly, why is the third season of this Kaitlin Olson charmer delayed?

You got questions; Decider’s got answers. Here’s when you can expect the new season of High Potential to premiere on ABC, Hulu, and Disney+.

Will There Be a Season 3 of High Potential?

Yes! Back in March, ABC announced that High Potential would return for a third season. It was also revealed that the show would have new showrunners.

Season 2 showrunner Todd Harthan has left the series, with Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face) taking over as co-showrunners and executive producers.

“We are so grateful to be working with Craig, Karey, Simran and our partners at 20th and ABC on this exciting new chapter of High Potential,” the Zuckermans said in a statement. “The fact [that] we get to collaborate with Drew, Sarah, and Andrea at Goddard Textiles and the incomparable Kaitlin Olson is a dream come true. We’re looking forward to climbing into the brilliant, bustling mind of Morgan Gillory and crafting intricate mysteries worthy of her genius.”

Why Is High Potential Season 3 Delayed?

ABC previously announced that High Potential, The Rookie, and Will Trent are all being held for midseason premieres, which is why all three shows aren’t on the fall schedule.

Official release dates have yet to be announced, but all three programs are set to return in early 2027, most likely in early January.

The Rookie and the new spinoff The Rookie: North will air on Mondays, with High Potential and Will Trent anchoring Tuesday nights.

High Potential Season 3 Info:

While we don’t have a ton of new information about the upcoming season, we know that High Potential will air a special post-Super Bowl episode on February 14, 2027. It’s also been announced that, after the events of the Season 2 finale, Steve Howey will no longer appear as a series regular. But Howey could potentially return in a guest-starring capacity.

Where To Stream High Potential Seasons 1 and 2:

Every episode of High Potential is streaming on Hulu and Disney+. Season 2 episodes are also available on ABC.com.

Disney+ offers a number of subscription options, so you can find the one that works for you. With ads, a subscription costs $12.49/month; without ads, it’s $21.49/month or $214.99/year.

There are also Disney+ bundles with Hulu, HBO Max, and ESPN+, so you can subscribe to up to three services at once and save over 40% every month. The bundles are available in a few different configurations, starting at $12.99/month for Disney+ and Hulu with ads, and going up to $34.99/month for Disney+, Hulu, and Max ad-free.

High Potential returns in early 2027 on ABC.
