After working on Young Sheldon for seven seasons, Annie Potts hinted at why she could be making fewer appearances on its spinoff, Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage.
“It’s a little harder to do them both now,” Potts, 74, exclusively told Us on the set of her Fox series Best Medicine. “It just depends on if they can squeeze me in.”
She continued: “On that show — because it’s a three-camera live audience — they take every third week off. But we never take any time off here. It’s just pedal to the metal, 15 hours a day, every day — until Christmas. So I imagine that it will be until after Christmas when I’m able to do [Georgie and Mandy] again.”
Potts began playing Connie (a.k.a Meemaw) on Young Sheldon when the show premiered on CBS in 2017. In Jessica Radloff‘s new tell-all book, Young Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw’s-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy, new behind-the-scenes revelations hinted that there was some frustration among the cast — including Potts — when the show came to an end in 2024.
“There was a different quality to the air, knowing that this was gonna be it. Annie was very obviously pissed, vocally so, as she tends to be. I even felt guilty a bit to be less disappointed than others,” Lance Barber explained in the book, which was released in October. “And Iain [Armitage] was ready, too … to move on to something else, artistically, and maybe personally … with things that boiled up a little bit toward the end of the season. I think a lot of people felt there were certain elements of the show that they were ready to move on from.”
Potts recalled feeling “devalued” after not being offered a series regular role on the Georgie and Mandy spinoff. She later aired out her annoyance in an interview, blaming CBS for a decision made by the show’s writers, which she claimed she got a call about.

“We were told they were hoping some of the Sheldon family would pop by once in a while, but that is not a real or generous invitation, you know what I mean? Like, ‘Oh gosh, that sounds really great,’” she said before recalling her debut on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. “I feel a little bit like I’m a guest in my own house, and there’s no real place for me. I love to work, but it’s a very odd sensation.”
Potts has since become a regular presence on Best Medicine, adapted from the British series Doc Martin, where she plays the aunt of Josh Charles’ Dr. Martin Best.
“I would love it if Iain came on the show,” she told Us of her former Young Sheldon costar. “I would love to work with him as a grownup. Although he was pretty grown up at 8, I have to say. But he’s a darling boy. I love him.”
Best Medicine airs Tuesdays on Fox at 8 p.m. ET.
