You Can See Everything, Clayface Seek No. 1 at Halloween Box Office

A24’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything, which includes a memorable discussion about the classic comedy routine “Who’s on First,” sparked questions about whether the movie itself could take first place over Clayface as the two films battled at the box office during a subdued Halloween weekend.

Sunday figures show the two movies still neck and neck for the top spot domestically, with directors Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim‘s You Can See Everything looking like the early winner at $10.6 million in its third weekend to bring its North American cume to $63.8 million. Currently playing in 3,243 North American locations, the Oscar-buzzed documentary eyes its first No. 1 finish. It looks to decline around 43 percent for the weekend that saw the studios avoid releasing new titles as Halloween fell on a Saturday.

If this holds, the three-hour You Can See Everything would follow previous features True Grit, Argo and 1917 as films that hit No. 1 in their third frames. Despite the meager overall turnout for this weekend’s moviegoing, the domestic box office’s 2026 take of $8.46 billion still puts it around 20 percent ahead of last year’s total sum to this point, according to Rentrak.

Just behind You Can See Everything for the time being is Clayface, as filmmaker James Watkins’ body horror feature looks to gross around $10.4 million in its sophomore frame for a two-week North American sum of $44.1 million. Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie star in the $44 million-budgeted Warner Bros. release that marks DC Studios‘ third theatrical title for bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran after 2025’s Superman and this summer’s underperforming Supergirl. Clayface looks to decline around 56 percent for the weekend.

Overall, this weekend is headed for one of the lowest domestic totals of the year with $55.6 million, down a frightening 42.1 percent from last weekend, per Rentrak. This still marks a roughly 4.2 percent uptick over the $49 million collected from the equivalent weekend in 2025. Last year, Halloween fell on Friday as Black Phone 2 led the frame with $8.3 million in its third weekend.

“Historical challenges can spook studios away from launching a major film into the marketplace,” Rentrak’s Paul Dergarabedian tells The Hollywood Reporter of competition from parties and trick-or-treating on moviegoing’s biggest day of the weekend. He points out that the lack of a splashy opener “limits the opportunity for a major new release to give October a big closing boost. [But] the broader horror picture remains remarkable. A quieter Halloween weekend can coexist with an exceptionally strong year for the genre.”

In third place is Laika‘s stop-motion animated feature Wildwood, which earned around $7.5 million in its second weekend to bring its domestic sum to $25.8 million. Carey Mulligan, Peyton Elizabeth Lee and Jacob Tremblay lead the voice cast for director Travis Knight’s movie that eyes an impressive decline of around 38 percent and was likely dinged by families’ weekend attention focusing away from cinemas. Wildwood has generated Oscar buzz and carries a 99 percent critics approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes, but it will need to continue to show legs, given its hefty reported production budget of $100 million.

Registering a similarly enviable hold with a decline around 28 percent is Black Bear’s Wicker, as the romantic fantasy grossed $4.1 million from 2,374 North American theaters for a domestic total of $13.2 million after its second weekend. Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgard star in directors Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer’s movie about a woman in a quiet village who gets a wicker husband. It holds a strong 94 Rotten Tomatoes score from critics.

Closing out the top five is Paramount and Legendary’s Street Fighter, picking up $3.2 million in its third weekend as its domestic cume reaches $53 million in its third weekend. Starring Noah Centineo and Andrew Koji, director Kitao Sakurai’s adaptation of the Capcom video game added $3.2 million internationally as the global total stands at $91.9 million for the $82 million-budgeted feature.

Likely landing in seventh place is Sony’s Resident Evil, which crossed $400 million at the global box office in its seventh weekend of release. Its projected $2.5 million domestically for the frame will bring the North American total to $157.3 million for director Zach Cregger’s Austin Abrams-led adaptation of the video game.

Despite the slow weekend, analysts see the box office as likely to pick up dramatically as the 2026 holiday corridor approaches. Remaining high-profile titles for 2026 include The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, Avengers: Doomsday, Dune: Part Three and more.

“This is the first time since the pandemic that Halloween has landed on a Saturday, and studios are wise to avoid competing with parties or trick-or-treating events, on top of the usual packed football schedule in the States this time of year,” Fandango director of analytics and Box Office Theory founder Shawn Robbins tells THR. He notes that such a gap can precede a busy stretch, which is likely this year “as holiday moviegoing picks up, and the cadence of tentpole releases resumes, crescendoing with a December that may be one for movie theater record books and cap off a strong year for the industry.”

More to come.
