Will Wednesday season 3 be the end? The hints we’ve gotten so far

Fewer things have been bigger on Netflix than Wednesday‘s release. Fans everywhere tuned in to this adaptation of the famous character, played by the incredible Jenna Ortega, and have kept loving her morbid takes every step of the way. Season 2 arrived in 2025 after a three-year wait, and while it wasn’t as fantastic as the first season, it still drew plenty of fans, all clamoring for more.

Production on season 3 has finished, and now we’re just wondering when we’ll get the next season. Thankfully, no strikes or anything else has prevented filming, so we should be on track for a (hopefully) 2027 release.

That said, there’s also been some discourse lately that season 3 could be Wednesday’s last season, despite its popularity. While Netflix hasn’t confirmed yet whether season 3 will be the final curtain call, here are a few key hints we’ve picked up on:

Jenna Ortega says the show is ‘coming to a head’

One of the biggest voices in the world of Wednesday is obviously its star, Jenna Ortega. She’s been in the role for the last few years and has also appeared in several movies. While Wednesday has shot her to fame, she’s appeared in plenty of crazy films like Death of a Unicorn, Klara and the Sun, and more.

Ortega mentioned this in an interview with Esquire, where she admits she’s been in a more “experimental” phase. But the actress said she’s been trying to do it now that Wednesday is coming to a “head.”

“I’ve been in this experimental phase. It’s only been in the last year or so—especially with the show coming to a head and getting ready to enter this next chapter in my life and career—that I’ve really honed in. I’ve seen some things now. I’ve tried some things. Now it’s important to me to be focused on stories and characters that I feel truly connected to.”

Keep in mind, this could also be her talking about a plotline in the show. It does not, by any means, mean the show is coming to an end. But “coming to a head” often means it’s reaching a point it won’t reach again. And oftentimes, in shows, when the climax is there, another season doesn’t follow.

Ortega has also hinted she’s ‘done’ with television for a bit

In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast on YouTube, Ortega commented that once Wednesday is done, she’s most likely going to stay off TV for a while:

“I actually haven’t had a lot of franchise conversations. I haven’t. But what I’m meant to do will come and find me. I think after Wednesday, I’ll probably be off the TV for a while. You know, I had many years doing that. I was bouncing from show to show as a kid, this to this, and I want to leave time for new things.”

Ortega, for those who don’t remember, has been on television for most of her young adult life, starting her career on the Disney Channel. It makes sense that this would be the best way for her to find peace after Wednesday ended — to focus entirely on movies.

Again, she’s not saying the series is done. But the bigger thing is that Ortega feels comfortable enough to talk about the ending. For a while, she shared what she was excited about for the next stories and the new season. But now she’s brought up what she might do after, which leans a little into her plans. The biggest update really with this show is that Winona Ryder joined the cast, but other than that, it’s been crickets on what the story is going to be about.

A cast member shared a cryptic message suggesting the show was endind

The biggest sign Wednesday might be ending is that a cast member shared a post to her Instagram stories before quickly deleting it.

Jenny Ayumi, who has been the standout behind Ortega since the beginning of Wednesday, shared a story suggesting her time on the show had come to an end (via Collider). She wrote:

“End of an era… A 5-year chapter finally comes to a close.”

After that, she posted a photo from Romania and the first season, five years ago, when they filmed. The first story was quickly deleted.

Now this is the biggest indication that Wednesday really might be reaching its end. Whenever a cast member quickly deletes something, that usually means it was a big “no-no” for Netflix. It could also mean Ayumi won’t be the stunt double anymore if the show continues. But the dots are beginning to click. Will season 3 be the show’s last?

You can watch both seasons of Wednesday on Netflix.
