5 Best Bravo TV Shows Of All Time, Ranked

Bravo has spent an incredible 45 years developing a brand known and loved within the reality television landscape — and throughout their steady rise, many series have left major impressions on the network’s treasure trove of dedicated fans. Considering how many incredible shows Bravo brought to the masses over the years, we decided it only made sense to rank the five best ones of all time.

But because there are so many incredible reality shows on Bravo’s roster over the years, we had to make some seriously tough choices for this short list. That means fan favorites like “Top Chef,” “Summer House,” “Southern Charm,” “Shahs of Sunset,” and even “Watch What Happens Live” won’t make appearances below. However, the fact that they weren’t included doesn’t discount their importance to the overall Bravo canon. Dying to know which series made the cut? Read on to find out who we ranked as the five best Bravo TV shows of all time.

5. Don’t Be Tardy

Bravo

Debuting just four years into the iconic run of “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” the 2012 series “Don’t Be Tardy” is arguably the most iconic “Housewives” spin-off that didn’t become its own dynasty like “Vanderpump Rules.” It followed original “Atlanta” housewife Kim Zolciak and her whirlwind romance with then-new husband, football player Kroy Biermann.

Zolciak quickly became a fan favorite on “Housewives” and the goodwill she built up was parlayed perfectly into “Don’t Be Tardy.” Like Bethenny Frankel from 2010’s “Real Housewives of New York” off-shoot, “Bethenny Ever After,” one of Kim’s character strengths is her commitment to motherhood, giving Bravo’s audience something real they could relate to and connect with.

“Don’t Be Tardy” spent eight seasons on Bravo, airing from 2012 to 2020 before its cancellation. Season 1 yielded decent ratings, with an audience of around 1.5 million viewers or more per episode . It continued to average around a million viewers an episode for the rest of its run — and helped prime Bravo’s reality spin-off landscape.

4. Inside the Actors Studio

Despite being the complete opposite of what people think of when they think of Bravo, there’s no denying the cultural and intellectual impact of “Inside the Actors Studio.” The interview series saw host James Lipton get to the heart of the acting craft with some of Hollywood’s most legendary performers, including television greats like Jennifer Aniston, Ted Danson, and Mary Tyler Moore.

“Inside the Actors Studio” was smart, insightful, charming, and one of the most trusted outlets actors had to truly open up about the art of acting — something that is sorely missed. The series’ guests seemed to really thrive on the discussions in the show. “In Mr. Lipton’s guest chair, actors cease being stars for a while and become artists and teachers,” the New York Times said in 1999, five years into the show’s legendary run.

The series was filmed in front of a live studio audience on Pace University’s New York City campus, which gave it a special feeling of connection between artist and audience. “Inside the Actors Studio” aired for an incredible 22 seasons and 24 years before moving to Ovation in 2019 for its 23rd and final season.

3. NYC Prep

You’re not a true Bravo fan if you haven’t seen “NYC Prep.” Yeah, we said it. The 2009 show is easily the network’s most legendary and enduring one-season-only series, following a group of privileged New York City teens with attitudes and ambitions as they navigate relationships, opportunities, and climbing Manhattan’s social ladder by any means necessary. It wasn’t a critical success by any means, but it didn’t need to be; The show’s biting tone was enough to grow a cult audience.

The series is something of a time capsule for the original “Gossip Girl” era and its style of NYC “It Girl” iconography and attitude, particularly in how real it could be if you ventured into the right circles. “NYC Prep” is one of those shows diehards remember when they think of Bravo, not only because of its addicting drama and enticing cast of personalities, but due to its untapped potential. It might have been an even bigger hit if it got more time on air.

To this day, “NYC Prep” truly exemplifies the Bravo vibe. It even had a resurgence during the 2020 lockdowns, with audiences rewatching the series through marathons on Bravo and on Peacock when it was added to the service. There will always be space for the network’s specific brand of frivolous drama that, in the moment, feels like the most important thing on earth.

2. Vanderpump Rules

Bravo

The one, the only “Vanderpump Rules,” potentially the most important spin-off in Bravo history, and simply one of the best reality shows of all time. It spawned out of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” spotlights Lisa Vanderpump’s expansive restaurateur career, and follows the lives of the most exciting staff members at SUR, one of the reality star’s most popular eateries.

There’s no denying how excellent the show’s cast was from the beginning. Production chose to highlight hungry would-be actors and models, already primed for the kind of ruthlessness it would take to make mainstream waves on reality television. Add a glamorous yet gritty setting with its own internal hierarchy on top of the greater cultural one at play in Los Angeles, drama for days, and a sassy bold matriarch-boss at the center, and you’ve got yourself one heck of a reality show. Frankly, men have been knighted for less!

Anyone even remotely tapped into reality TV probably knows, but after debuting as part of a “RHOBH” episode in Season 3, “Vanderpump Rules” became one of Bravo’s biggest sensations within a few seasons and continued to rise in popularity over the years. Plus, the show managed to do something many reality series never figure out: How to revitalize itself organically, and with a bang. The epic “Scandoval” era in 2023 rejuvenated the series, and brought it into a second round of massive success.

1. The Real Housewives of New Jersey

Bravo

Naturally, a “Real Housewives” series had to be at the top of this list. The question was which one. But there’s really only one true answer there: “Real Housewives of New Jersey.” The series was the fourth addition to the franchise in 2009, after “Orange County,” “New York,” and “Atlanta” — and it made a strong impression, one that has yet to truly wane even through the years and many cast changes.

“RHONJ” is the most enduring “Housewives” show in terms of staying interesting, staying crazy, and staying close to its roots (original cast member Teresa Giudice and her family dynamics still anchor the show to this day). Considering it was one of the earliest “Housewives” additions but also came after a few other installments, it’s no small feat that the show has been able to not only build a dedicated fan base, but maintain it through realism that never feels stale and keeps viewers coming back.

As a result, “RHONJ” is the “Housewives” series has the most real estate in the zeitgeist — and only some of the reason is how hilarious Giudice’s butchered adages and one-liners are (and yes, she’s been immortalized as a meme many a time). The show’s undeniable personality, proud outrageousness, and strong dramatic core going all the way back to its roots have made “RHONJ” the purest distillation of the “Housewives” franchise.
