Frndly TV has made some updates to its app, but not everyone is happy with the changes.
According to the app’s page on the App Store, Frndly TV released version 3.0.7, though the service didn’t give any details about what that new version includes. The update notes only say: “We’ve crushed some bugs and improved performance to deliver the best streaming experience for you!”
Along with that “improved performance,” some users are noticing a new type of ads on the service. Pause ads are designed to be a less intrusive way to deliver ads to viewers. Rather than interrupting content, the ads only pop up when the user pauses what they’re watching, either with a static image or interactive elements like QR codes.
This isn’t a surprising update, as the streaming service is owned by Roku. The streaming platform bought the service in 2025 to support its focus on growing revenue by adding a live streaming service to its portfolio. Roku is known for offering a wide variety of options for advertisers. The company promotes pause ads as a way to “sponsor the screen without disrupting the stream.”
We’ve reached out to Frndly TV for more information about the recent app update and will update this post when we know more.
